BOOK HEREGraver Weir has a rich history that began with poultry farming when Philip and his family managed a thriving chicken operation in numerous sheds on the property. Philip spent many years as a dedicated dairy farmer before deciding to transition away from milking cows and into equestrian life by establishing a livery yard.
In 2006–2007, the poultry sheds were removed, and Graver Weir Equestrian Centre was born. By 2007, the first horses moved in, and the centre began its journey as a livery yard.
Gemma has always had a deep passion for horses. Like many of the children now attending Graver Weir’s riding school, she didn’t have the opportunity to own her own pony growing up. Instead, she spent her childhood at local riding schools, offering help at every yard that would have her. She eagerly soaked up knowledge from seasoned riders, events, and shows. Her dream of horse ownership came true at the age of 25 when she bought her first horse, Tom.
Before joining Philip at Graver Weir, Gemma worked as a veterinary nurse for over a decade. After marrying Philip, she became increasingly involved in the farm and the running of the livery yard, helping to develop it into the equestrian hub it is today. Graver Weir is also home to a successful Suffolk Punch breeding programme, spearheaded by Gemma and Philip. This journey began in 2015 with the purchase of their first Suffolk filly, followed by another in 2016. In 2019, they welcomed their first foal, Chamber Cherry Blossom, and have continued to breed a foal each year since. With the Suffolk Punch listed as a rare breed, their breeding programme plays a vital role in supporting its preservation.
The team at Graver Weir is passionate about equestrian life, from teaching riders of all ages to caring for their horses and ensuring their welfare. They are proud to share this special place with the community and continue building on its unique heritage.
